How To Use Acentua

Install the extension in Chrome, keep PT mode on when writing in Portuguese, then finish a word with Space, punctuation, Enter, or Tab. If the word is safe to correct, Acentua updates it immediately.

Install it in Chrome

Add Acentua from the Chrome Web Store. After installing, reload any pages that were already open.

Use PT mode

Open the Acentua popup to turn PT mode on for Portuguese or off when you are writing in another language.

Type normally

Write Portuguese with your usual keyboard. For example, type Eu tambem falo portugues and finish with a space.

Review ambiguous suggestions

Ambiguous words such as esta are not changed automatically. Some words can show more than one option, such as avo offering avó and avô. Click the option you want, use the default Ctrl+. for the first option, or dismiss with Ctrl+,.

Customize when needed

Use the extension options to disable websites, add ignored words, add custom corrections, change suggestion shortcuts, or turn ambiguous suggestions on and off.

What It Does

Acentua 0.1.1 is intentionally conservative. It includes 4,056 safe local corrections and 132 ambiguous entries, correcting words that are highly likely to need an accent while avoiding automatic changes when context is required.

Local corrections

Packaged dictionaries run in the browser. No server is needed for the typing path.

Capitalization aware

Lowercase, title case, and uppercase words keep their original capitalization pattern.

Safer fields skipped

Passwords, emails, URLs, payment-style fields, code areas, and unsupported editors are left alone.

Quick PT mode

Use the popup to pause Acentua globally when you are writing in another language, then turn it back on for Portuguese.

Multi-option suggestions

Ambiguous entries can show each valid accent option, so avo can offer both avó and avô.

Configurable shortcuts

Use the defaults Ctrl+. for first-option accept and Ctrl+, for dismiss, or set alternatives such as Ctrl+] and Ctrl+[ in Options.

Type Expected result Behavior
Eu tambem Eu também Automatic safe correction
Voce Você Preserves title case
NAO NÃO Preserves uppercase
esta esta plus suggestion User chooses whether to add the accent
avo avó or avô Shows multiple local suggestion options

Try It Here

These fields are here so you can test Acentua after installing the extension. Type the sample text exactly, including the trailing space, and watch for the correction.

Expected: Eu também falo português

Expected: café fácil

Safe words should correct. esta should show a suggestion, and avo should offer both avó and avô. Accept an option with the popup, or use your configured shortcut for the first option.

Basic rich text fields are supported. Complex editors may vary.

Acentua should not change password fields.

If nothing changes, confirm that Acentua is installed, enabled for this website, and that the page was refreshed after installation.
